Abstinence-only Sex Education

ABSTINENCE UNTIL MARRIAGE SEX EDUCATION

BECAUSE a civil society acknowledges that the right of refusal is the most important aspect of sexual freedom, and

BECAUSE true sexual freedom exists when the right of refusal is respected, and

BECAUSE the inclusion of abstinence sex education is essential to assure that students are informed that abstinence is the surest method of avoiding unintended pregnancies, sexually-transmitted infections, and sexually transmitted cancers, and

BECAUSE the inclusion of abstinence sex education is essential to assure that every student receives all information from the Center for Disease Control which states, “limiting the number of sex partners and choosing a partner less likely to be infected may lower the risk of HPV, and

BECAUSE current comprehensive sex education creates a false impression that “everyone is doing it”, a robust abstinence sex education approach can reduce the pressure and bullying placed upon youth to surrender their right of refusal, and

BECAUSE academic freedom assures every student the right to study a subject without fear of reprisal, and

BECAUSE the function of sex education must include protecting the sexual and reproductive health of a society as well as the sexual rights of the individual which are achieved, in part, by advocating respect for virginity, chastity and the right of refusal, and

BECAUSE current comprehensive sex education curriculums have failed to fulfill these responsibilities and have had a deleterious effect on our society when the illegitimacy rate has gone up more than 300 percent since 1970,

THEREFORE health education must include an equal emphasis on abstinence, family planning, and sexually transmitted diseases with a focus on the value of family. All information included in the health curriculum must be founded on scientific facts. Students must be taught that true sexual freedom exists when the right of refusal is respected. The sex education curriculum must include the role of civility and the importance of respecting the values held by fellow citizens. The parents’ wishes regarding intimate health instruction must be heard, respected, and honored.
